What is Physiatry

Physiatry is a branch of medicine that diagnoses and treats musculoskeletal problems such as back and neck pain, tendonitis, and pinched nerves for patients who have experienced musculoskeletal injuries.

A physiatrist is a physician that specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation, focusing on restoring function. A physiatrist sees adult patients of all ages and treats problems that pertain to all major joints in the body.

Spine and Rehabilitation Physicians focus on back, neck, shoulder, and hip problems, as well as musculoskeletal injuries.

Dr. Acebey is a physiatrist and he specializes in the treatment of spine and musculoskeletal injuries. He approaches a diagnosis through a history and physical examination in conjunction with other diagnostic studies such as EMG and nerve conduction studies, xrays or MRI. He strives to provide treatment options that are non-operative and may include rehabilitation therapies, judicious use of medications, percutaneous procedures, and patient education.
